The pool
The Eighth Deck is at 500 E 4th St, eight floors above downtown, with skyline views, a pool and a hot tub, both open weather permitting. Private cabanas come with dedicated space and poolside service. The pool bar there is closed for fall and winter.
Our take
Hilton is cheaper than Westin ($40) and Omni ($40), and it adds a hot tub. Van Zandt is $20 and heated all year, which makes it the better winter choice.
The catch is timing. Fall and winter run cooler, and the bar is shut then. Heating isn't published by the hotel, so aim for June to August.
