Buy a pass if you want to swim at Ovolo without checking in. Wednesday to Sunday, A$49 per person gets you a reserved table, a towel and two frozen cocktails. No other pool on our list sells day passes.
The pool
Ovolo's pool sits up top in Fortitude Valley, as part of the ABOVE Rooftop Pool & Bar, which runs all day with DJs. The hotel doesn't publish a floor or say whether the water is heated. The day pass doesn't run Monday or Tuesday.
Our take
Most pools on our list are for guests or leave access unclear. Ovolo is the exception, with a published price, a published schedule and a booking page on ovolohotels.com. The Alva is the other rooftop pool in Fortitude Valley, and it doesn't publish its access rules at all.
The catch is the missing detail on the pool itself. No floor, no heating information, and the pass is only sold Wednesday to Sunday. Swimming in June or July, when Brisbane highs average 21°C, is a gamble until you ask the hotel. Come between December and February and heating matters far less.
