The pool
An outdoor, heated pool on the 7th floor of the Hyatt Place on Fannin Street, in the Medical Center area. Loungers, lap swimming and a pool bar share the deck, and the hotel's guests praise the views. Hours aren't published, so check before planning a late swim.
Our take
Hyatt Place sits in the middle of the pack on price. Its $35 day pass costs more than the Marriott Marquis at $20 or the JW Marriott at $25, and less than the Westin Memorial City at $50. The 7th floor is far lower than that Westin's 18th, so expect a shorter view.
The catch is the location. The Medical Center is a working district, not a place to wander for an evening out. Pool hours aren't published either. The heating helps in the cooler months, but our best swim season is still June to August.
