The pool
Marcel Wanders designed this rooftop infinity pool, set on the 5th floor in Mecidiyeköy. Views take in the Istanbul skyline, the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara, and loungers and sun shades line the poolside. It opens only in summer, and the hotel gives no dates.
Our take
Fairmont is the one hotel on our list that publishes its pool floor, so you know what you're booking. The Ritz-Carlton also has an infinity pool on a roof, but it gives no floor number.
Season is the weak spot. The hotel says only "summer months", with no opening or closing dates. Istanbul's highs reach 30°C in July and August, so aim for those months and ask the hotel for dates first. The Fairmont Spa has a heated indoor pool, but it's separate from the rooftop one.

The indoor spa pool is limited too, to spa guests and Lifestyle members, from 7am to 10pm.
