Warm water is a given in Punta Cana: average highs run 30.3°C in November, 29.4°C in December and 28.5°C in January, and July to September is the best stretch. Three hotels are on our list, and the split is access. One is guests-only, two don't publish their rules, and none sells day passes. Only HM Bavaro Beach states that its pool sits on the roof.

Our first pick is Finest Punta Cana at Uvero Alto: seven pools, including an adults-only pool and children's pools. It publishes no floor and no access rules, so ask before you book. For a pool you can see is on the roof, go to HM Bavaro Beach, where an infinity pool sits beside a rooftop bar.

Hotels you might expect here, and why they're not

Several resorts show up often in Punta Cana searches, yet their pools are at ground or resort level, or no page states a level at all. None has a roof pool or top-floor terrace that we can point to.

  • W Punta Cana, Adult All-Inclusive. No source says the pool is on the roof or a top-floor terrace. The hotel's own Marriott page describes an oceanfront pool with palm trees, which points to ground level, though no source states the level. The "rooftop" mentions relate to beats, dining and a speakeasy, not a pool.
  • Sanctuary Cap Cana. Sources describe several resort pools (main pool, exterior pool, saltwater pool, swim-up bar pool) but none places a pool on the roof or an open top-floor terrace. The "rooftop bar and infinity pool" in the Luxury Travel Mag snippet refers to Hyatt Ziva Cancun, not this hotel.
  • Zoëtry Agua Punta Cana. Sources describe ground-level and garden pools (infinity, serpentine, indoor, and private terrace plunge pools). None places a pool on the roof or a top-floor terrace.
  • Wyndham Alltra Punta Cana. The hotel's own site describes a "sprawling pool" and a "freeform pool" but never mentions a rooftop pool or top-floor terrace. The Resortpass listing is for a Las Galeras property, not this hotel, so it was ignored. The Google Maps listing has no pool information.
  • Dreams Onyx Resort & Spa. No source places a pool on the roof or a top-floor terrace. The described pools (main free-form pool stretching from lobby to beach, waterpark, Lazy River, kids' pools) are at resort or beach level.
  • Live Aqua Punta Cana. No source places a pool on the roof or a top-floor terrace. The hotel's own site describes pools surrounded by gardens, and private suite pools are on terraces, not stated as roof or top floor.
  • Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa, All-Inclusive Resort. No source says this hotel has a pool on the roof or a top-floor terrace. Sources describe beachfront and ground-level pools plus a water park. Sources place the resort in Miches, not Punta Cana. The Google Maps listing is for Dreams Cap Cana, a different hotel, so I ignored it.
  • Meliá Punta Cana Beach Wellness Inclusive - Adults only. The hotel's site lists outdoor and private pools, but no source places any pool on the roof. The rooftop bar is described without a pool.
