Book Sol Ipanema for a heated rooftop pool on Ipanema's seafront, as long as you're staying anyway. Only hotel guests get in, and the rooftop bar next to it is closed to visitors too.
The pool
The pool is on the terrace of Sol Ipanema at Av. Vieira Souto 320, with a panoramic view of Ipanema Beach. It is heated, and an exclusive bar sits beside it. Floor number isn't published.
Our take
Sol Ipanema is one of three heated pools on our list, and the only one in Ipanema that says so. Fasano and Sofitel, its neighbors on Av. Vieira Souto, don't publish heating. Hotel Arpoador is another guests-only Ipanema pool, but it says nothing about heat.
The downside is the door policy: no day pass is listed, and visitors can't use the pool or the bar. The terrace is up one flight of stairs and isn't fully wheelchair accessible. Pets aren't allowed in the pool area.

Tips
- Swim from November to January if you like warm days: highs run 29.4°C in November to 31.5°C in January, and the pool is heated for cooler spells.
Before you go. If anyone in your group uses a wheelchair, ask the hotel about access first, since the terrace is reached by one flight of stairs.
