Choose Omni for panoramic Mississippi River and French Quarter views. The renovated rooftop pool is heated and open year-round, 6am to 9pm. Day passes start at $25 and depend on availability.

The pool

Omni Royal Orleans has an outdoor, heated pool on its roof in the French Quarter. La Riviera, a newly renovated rooftop lounge, sits next to it, and the view covers both the Quarter and the Mississippi River. The floor isn't published by the hotel.

Our take

Compared with Hotel Monteleone, the Omni's day pass is cheaper ($25 against $40) and the pool closes an hour earlier, at 9pm. Both are heated and open all year. The Omni's pitch is the river view, which Monteleone's facts don't mention.

Access is the downside. The pool page sells day passes based on availability, yet the main hotel page limits the pool to registered guests only. Cocktail service at La Riviera also ends around dusk, so go earlier in the day if you want a drink.
