We earn a commission if you book through some links on this page. It doesn't change your price, and hotels can't pay to be listed. How we make money.

Pick this one if you're staying outside Copacabana and want a pool for one afternoon. Day passes are sold on mylittleriojournal.wordpress.com, and no other hotel on our list sells them. The price and the pool's floor aren't published, so expect to ask.

The pool

The JW Marriott sits at Av. Atlântica 2600 in Copacabana and runs a rooftop bar called Moonlounge Rooftop. The pool's floor isn't published, and neither is the day pass price. Passes are limited in number and depend on how full the hotel is.

Our take

Every other hotel on our list either keeps the pool for guests or doesn't say who can swim. The JW Marriott is the one where a non-guest has a route in. Premier Copacabana and Américas Copacabana also sit on the same beachfront district but publish nothing about outsiders.

The catch is certainty. Day passes are capped and tied to occupancy, so a busy week can mean no pass. Fasano and Sofitel in Ipanema have no such lottery for guests, but you need a booking there. For a set date, buy the pass early or reserve a room.

Good to know

  • Day passes on sale to non-guests, which no other hotel here offers
  • Children under 8 don't pay the day pass
  • Food and drinks served at the pool bar

The catches

  • Day pass price isn't published
  • Passes are limited and depend on occupancy

Best forVisitors staying elsewhere who want one afternoon at a Copacabana hotel pool.

Getting in

Hotel guests can use the pool. Outside visitors buy a day pass on mylittleriojournal.wordpress.com, which doesn't show the price.

Passes are limited in number and depend on the hotel's occupancy. Children under 8 don't pay for the pass. The hotel doesn't publish its own pool access rules or hours.

Tips

  • Buy the pass as early as you can, since the number sold is capped.
  • Go in the shoulder of the hot season: our best three months to swim in Rio are February to April.

Before you go. Confirm the day pass is still on sale and what it costs for your date, because the price isn't published and availability follows occupancy.
