The pool
Virgin Hotels' Pool Club is on the 13th floor in the Warehouse District, with a heated pool and an indoor-outdoor bar and lounge. It looks over the New Orleans skyline. The drawbacks are the 10am to 7pm window and the 21-and-over rule for non-guests.
Our take
At $10, the pass costs a quarter of Monteleone's $40 and well under the $25 charged at Omni, Renaissance and InterContinental. It covers the pool, drinks and bites by the water, and city views. At 13 floors it also beats The Barnett's 9th.
The lounger is the downside. The pass covers pool water access only; poolside sofas, a cabana daybed and VIP lounges are reserved separately. Hotel reservations carry a nightly $29 plus tax Destination Fee that includes 20% off poolside sofa rentals, so a guest rate is not as low as it first looks.
